Building Positive Relationships Through Asset-Based Thinking
The Educational Justice Professional Learning Series, Session 3:
On Sept. 25, 2023, EAC-South and the Center for Black Educator Development hosted a virtual learning session focusing on building cultural proficiency in the classroom. In this webinar, EAC-South explains how cultural perceptions can affect classroom teaching and expectations for individual students. It is the third session in a three-part series.
In the U.S., misperceptions about people from different cultural, linguistic, or ethnic backgrounds are common. Such misperceptions can result in students being viewed negatively rather than valued for their experiences and capabilities. Speakers will help educators shift from deficit-based perceptions to an asset-based approach focused on each student’s talents and strengths.
Speaker: Victoria McCall, Director of E-Learning, The Center for Black Educator Development
